Still Life with Alzheimer’s Number 2
Still Life with Alzheimer’s Number 2 is the second painting in a series. This series of paintings explores scenes of unexplainable events. When I was younger, my father suffered from a disease that consumed not only his mind but his life, too. Painting these paintings was my way of trying to come to terms with what was going on. I would see scenes like this one, of half-eaten fruit discarded and randomly placed around the house. And I would document them, whether it be through photographs or sketches. This was my way of expressing the absurdity of my situation and trying to understand why I was the one who was going through it. I finished painting this painting in 2014. The canvas was lying around the house, and I decided this image was what i wanted to paint. I positioned the image within the canvas and painted the dead space. Years later, one night, while sleeping, I had a vision of painting another series of works based on Asterix and Obelix. So I woke up and opened the comic and painted the first image i saw on the reverse of the canvas. This was the first frame that later expanded into several large-scale artworks. These artworks were never shown to the public, as i was asked to give up my project with the Asterix universe. This painting is the painting that got me accepted into university.
The painting comes unframed and measures 50 cm wide by 40 cm tall and 2 cm thick.
