Scene of Louis Botha Avenue at Dusk

R 160 000,00Price

The chaos of the day slowly subsides.

If you have ever had the privilege of driving down Louis Botha Avenue, from Orange Grove to Wynberg, you would know that feeling... A feeling of being on edge, aware and having your wits about you. All while seeing your life flash before your eyes several times throughout the drive.

This is a common feeling that many Joburgers experience every day, and this scene of Louis Botha Avenue at Dusk is my way of capturing it.

One evening, my sister and I went for a drive to capture reference images for me to paint. We ended up driving this exact route. I captured multiple photographs of Louis Botha from my perspective. And finally landed this image. Everything fell into place compositionally. And I had to paint it.

The artwork took a while to complete, due to the attention to detail.

Through the process, I came to a realisation. What others would question, my parents did.

What do I mean by that? I mean, one can ask, "Why South Africa,  why Joburg? Why build foundations on Louis Botha?" To others, it does not make sense, but to my parents, it did. It was their home.

Growing up in this environment, I had to learn to see the beauty. Learn to see what my parents saw and appreciate it.
