The first year of marriage is a beautiful time. It's a time where two become one. and where two become whole. For me, this painting sums up that saying, not for the subject, but rather when it was painted. This painting was painted in 2024, the first year of my marriage to my beautiful wife. You see that the first year was full of awesome experiences. And this painting is me painting, one such awesome experience.

The evening was approaching on a beautiful day at Satara Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park. My wife and I were on our first trip together as a married couple. As my wife relaxed in the chalet, I stood outside and admired my surroundings. The time had come to light the fire (a feeling only a few get to experience). Once i did so, I took my camera and captured the chalet we were staying in, as there seemed to be a cloud of holiness hovering over it. This cloud is the shechinah [Shechinah (or Shekhinah) is the Hebrew term for the "dwelling" or "settling" of the Divine Presence of God within the world]. This shechinah had been missing from my life for so long. My wife is the reason the shechinah was brought down. Now, even though the location itself is holy, at that moment it felt amplified, as the realisation of my wife's true beauty sank in.

This painting is me trying to extend that moment. Taking a passing feeling and fixing it to something tangible, always having something to go back to to remember that moment.

The beauty of a painting is that it is open-ended. You can interpret it as you please. What seems to be three chalets in a row with some trees overhead can mean so much to whoever creates and views the work. So, having that in mind what does this painting mean to you?
